If you are like many tourists visiting Sosua you will want to stay! To live and work permanently in the Dominican Republic obtaining residency status is required! However, there are many Americans buying businesses or working in professions like real estate and are not residents of Sosua. There are large numbers of Germans, Austrians, Canadians and Americans who live here year round!
It takes 3 to 4 months before provisional residency is granted for a period of one year. After the expiration of the provisional residency, the applicant may file for permanent residency! To get a Dominican driving license you will first need your Dominican residency! The Dominican Republic is the Caribbean’s largest democratic country!
